As mentioned in a previous post, we are starting to brainstorm our standard uniform kit of the future for our advanced teams. Many of the soccer clubs in the Round Rock, Pflugerville and North Austin areas have red and/or blue themes. We are excited about these mockups though because we feel they are a differentiated approach that still aligns with our strong brand and core values.
We are leaning towards the white uniforms being the "away" or alternate shirt. I know, the potential for stains and overall difficulty trying to keep a white uniform clean are challenges. But they just look super cool and are a nice evolution of our current practice uniforms (which these would likely double as).
For the "home" or primary shirt, we are torn between the uniqueness of the navy shirt and the bold statement of the red top. Another benefit of the red jersey is that the design is similar to the warmups, which we are planning to order as a thank you gift for all our volunteer coaches. Hopefully these would also be available to order for any interested families willing to make that purchase for their child.
Let us know what you think. If you love 'em or hate 'em, we'd like to hear that in the comments section below.
Dear WBSA Players,
Wells Branch Soccer Association and Avila Creative Soccer teamed up again to provide skills training at Avila's nearby climate-controlled synthetic grass facilities. Sample a fun and unique approach to training and learn the fundamentals of creative soccer.
With the Avila-WBSA collaboration, any registered WBSA player can take advantage of the following training sessions at no additional cost:
1. Avila Soccer Spring Semester Training
• Up to 2 training sessions per week
o 1 Age-appropriate Small Group Class once a week
o 1 Specialty Skills w/ Shooting Mechanics Class once a week
1. Avila uses Mindbodyonline to schedule classes. All players must have their own account to schedule classes. *Families with more than one child need to have separate accounts for each sibling. For more instructions on creating an account, visit avilasoccer.com/products/classes/instructions.
2. Click on the following link to “purchase” Avila’s Winter Break Camp. Don’t worry, you don’t actually purchase the camp, a coupon code is provided to get it free (the WBSA committee will email the code separately)
3. Starting December 19th through January 3rd, each player is able to schedule up to 2 classes each day (1 Age- appropriate Small Group Class and 1 Specialty Skills w/ Shooting Mechanics Class)
• Age-appropriate Small Group Classes are bracketed as follows: Ages 4-7, Ages 8-11 and Ages 12-16. Players may not train in an older age group, players will be turned away if they show up to sessions other than their own.
We look forward to seeing you at our facilities soon. Yours in sport,
Coach Eryck Avila
*The Winter Camp bonus is offered in the spirit of collaboration and is not intended to be applied retroactively by any eligible WBSA players who may have purchased our winter camp already. For complaints WBSA should have clients contact Avila directly to be invited to other exclusive limited-time only Avila programs as our guest.
Check out what happened when we rolled out our first ever Black Friday soccer sale (and likely the first of it's kind amongst Round Rock, Pflugerville, and North Austin clubs). The teal line to the far left of this graph is our registration for the upcoming season (Spring 2016). Thanks to all of you, we reached nearly 1/4 of our registration goal in a single day. And we did it 95 days before the season kicks off - by far our best pace ever. That is why we are doing it all one more time...
Because this was such a huge success, the executive committee voted last night to roll out a second (and final) day of discounts. That means that until tonight (Friday 12/18) at midnight, families will save $25 PER CHILD when they register for the spring soccer season. Keep in mind that this is above and beyond the $25 multiplayer discount that we are carrying over from last season.
Remember too that all registered players can take advantage of FREE indoor training starting immediately at no additional cost thanks to our partnership with Avila Creative Soccer. We'll announce more details on this blog shortly about WBSA players also being able to participate in the indoor winter camp that begins this Saturday (1/19). However you must be registered in order take advantage of these special offseason training opportunities, so get registered now!
Please help us spread the word as well. We are proud to be the most family-friendly and affordable club in Central Texas and are always eager to welcome new Round Rock, Pflugerville, and North Austin families.
WBSA is forever indebted to Liz Grimsley for her years of selfless contributions to the club. Just like so many of our amazing volunteers that make soccer a reality in our community, our 300+ families may not fully appreciate all that Liz did to give back.
Those of us that have been around the club for a while remember the days of uniforms showing up quite literally hours before our first games. Coaches would resemble MMA fighters as they scrambled for uniforms in what seemed like a first-come, first-served basis. It wasn't uncommon for us to have a U4 girls team left with uniforms that looked dresses while a U13 boys teams squeezed into tight purple tops. I'm obviously exaggerating, but not much. Though it probably just seems much worse looking back now because Liz raised the bar so high.
One of her first major contributions was helping the previous leadership implement our awesome practice uniforms. The club didn't used to always distribute a very nice $12 additional shirt at no additional cost. Liz helped put those wheels in motion and has sustained that tradition while also keeping the club on sound financial footing with regards to our uniform budget.
Just when we thought Liz couldn't get any more organized with her uniform distribution, she upped her game again in her final season as uniform coordinator. Every coach received a customized kit in well-organized travel bags complete with detailed labeling and highlighting for literally every single player in the club. And did I mention they were all personally delivered to coaches' doorsteps a few weeks before the season began?
Needless to say we will miss Liz on the executive committee but are incredibly grateful for all she has done. I'd be nervous about anyone trying to fill such large shoes, except that Liz tapped Laurie Childers to replace her on the team. Laurie will undoubtedly carry the torch and continue to innovate as we kick off some exciting new initiatives. She is the perfect fit to help us migrate to a high quality, standard uniform kit for our U9+ teams (coming Fall 2016). Be on the lookout for club t-shirts available for purchase soon (something folks have been seeking for a while now), warmup suits as a thank you gift for future coaches, and the next design of our practice uniform...all slated to rollout under Laurie's watch!
Please be sure to thank Liz for everything she did for Wells Branch soccer and let Laurie know if you are available to help drive some of these new initiatives. I'm proud that our humble club has by far the best uniform coordinators in the Round Rock, Pflugerville, and North Austin area.
Approximately 100 Wells Branch soccer players on 20 teams played more than 40 games this past weekend. This was the first time our club has ever hosted a soccer tournament and it was a huge success. Talk about an exceptional way to end the fall season. Players had a blast and the quality of soccer was unprecedented for the club. It was a great way to showcase how far our teams have come thanks to the heroic efforts of our volunteer coaches. Families were seen lounging literally all day, enjoying the great weather.
We intentionally limited participation to WBSA players so we could learn the ropes. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to our great community of volunteers. The feedback was remarkable and we've already documented several ways to continuously improve. It was truly the board's pleasure to provide a FREE development opportunity to all our players...one more example of the club being the most family friendly in Central Texas.
Needless to say this will not only continue as WBSA tradition, but we have already started discussions about how to complement the 3v3 event with a full-blow tournament in the future. What a great way to break in the new soccer complex, which is scheduled to be ready for play in August (just in time for the Fall 2016 season).
Huge kudos to Chris Connell and Paul Trimble for getting the fields prepared and doing so much behind the scenes as always. Of course, we are grateful to coach Frank Richardson for hatching the idea initially and helping us go from the back of an envelop idea to our first ever tournament in a matter of days.
We'd love to hear what you thought of the tournament. Please share your comments below.
